(M-204) Advanced Math G12

Course Description:
The focus of our courses is on making mathematics meaningful and connected inextricably to the real world. Through an integrated curriculum that promotes problem solving, conceptual understanding, and mathematical modeling, students develop a robust understanding of mathematics and an enhanced ability to retrieve and apply it.
While meaning and connections are a focus, students also explore interesting mathematical situations, reflect on solution methods, make comparisons, and examine why methods work. Students learn to effectively communicate their thinking, reflect on their learning, and connect newly developed mathematical ideas to prior understandings. These experiences help students build a deep understanding of mathematical concepts.
In Integrated course, we complete a three-year integrated sequence that addresses 9th, 10th, and 11th
grade math as well as both high school Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry, with additional topics from Pre- calculus.
Obviously, these are intense classes; students must be prepared daily in order to succeed. Our curriculum is based on the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM).
Upon completion of this course students will be able to succeed in SAT I, SAT II IC, ACT, ACT subject tests. Students will enroll in AP Statistics or AP Calculus and Mechanics the following year.
We will address the topics attached in Course Outline (note that timing and sequence may change):

1- Class-work 15
2- Homework & assignment 10
3- Project & research 20
4- Weekly Quiz 15
Totals and Average 60

Quarter Exam 40

Total Quarter Marks 100

A+  97-100 B+  87-89 C+  77-79 D+  67-69 E  50-59
A  93-96
A-  90-92 B  83-86
B-  80-82 C  73-76
C-  70-72 D  63-66
D-  60-62 F  Below 50

Please monitor the amount of time spent on any math assignment this year. I anticipate that assignments should take about 45-60 minutes daily, assuming each student is staying up with the work we are doing in class.
If homework is regularly taking significantly more time than expected, please notify me.

Homework Revisions & Late Work:
Late work is accepted at 70% of the assessed point value. If a student receives less than 80% on an on-time assignment, they may revise the work to achieve mastery of the required content, and turn it back in within 3 days for an improved grade.

Retaking Quizzes and Test Corrections:
All retakes are to be scheduled at the convenience of the student and the teacher after the approval of the Academic supervisor.

Students may retake homework and quizzes with no limit on the website to the grade they can earn on the retake.

Tests are in-class assessments of the student’s understanding of the content in the unit. While these also help the student self-assess his/her understanding of the course content, they are primarily intended to provide a measure of a student’s overall mastery of the unit content.
– Test corrections include a thoughtful reflection as to why the problem was missed and completion of a similar problem taken from a textbook or classwork/homework.
Textbooks & Course Materials: The textbooks for this course, HMH Integrated I, HMH Integrated II, and HMH Integrated III.
Out-sources will be used occasionally and with many other supplemental materials. Khan Academy and other learning resources will be provided as they are encountered. Please email me if you will not have regular access to a computer for homework.
All materials should be provided on the school’s learning management system.
